Reconciliation of a Penitent
It is preferred that this Sacrament be administered in the sanctuary of a church or chapel. However, the Confessor and Penitent may meet in any private place which ensures confidentiality.
The Confessor and Penitent make the sign of the Cross.

Confessor: Jesus, Son of Mary, have mercy upon us.

Penitent: Amen. It has been length of time since I last confessed my sins.

Confessor: The Lord is patient above all, yet now is the acceptable time. Examine your life and conduct by the rule of God's Commandments, that you may perceive where you have offended in what you have done and in what you have left undone, whether in thought, word, or deed. God spoke these words and said: I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods but me.

Penitent: Lord, have mercy upon me, and incline my heart to keep this law.

Confessor: You shall not make any graven image, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them, nor worship them.

Penitent: Lord, have mercy upon me, and incline my heart to keep this law.

Confessor: You shall not take the Name of the Lord your God in vain.

Penitent: Lord, have mercy upon me, and incline my heart to keep this law.

Confessor: Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.

Penitent: Lord, have mercy upon me, and incline my heart to keep this law.

Confessor: Honor your father and your mother.

Penitent: Lord, have mercy upon me, and incline my heart to keep this law.

Confessor: You shall not murder.

Penitent: Lord, have mercy upon me, and incline my heart to keep this law.

Confessor: You shall not commit adultery.

Penitent: Lord, have mercy upon me, and incline my heart to keep this law.

Confessor: You shall not steal.

Penitent: Lord, have mercy upon me, and incline my heart to keep this law.

Confessor: You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

Penitent: Lord, have mercy upon me, and incline my heart to keep this law.

Confessor: You shall not covet.

Penitent: Lord, have mercy upon me, and write all these laws in my heart, I beg you.

Confessor: Jesus said, "Come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Lay down your burden at His feet.

The Penitent confesses his sins, using the Commandments as a guide, and may relate any other troubles and concerns. Discussion may follow, including any reparations due or acts of penance which the Confessor may prescribe.

Confessor: Let us pray together.

Both: I confess to almighty God, and to you my friend in Christ, that I have sinned through my most grievous fault; in my thoughts, words, and deeds, by what I have done and by what I have left undone. I have not loved God with all my heart and I have not loved my neighbor as myself. In that I have broken one of the least of the Commandments I have broken the entire law. For all my sins I am truly sorry, and I humbly repent. Lord, have mercy upon me and forgive me my sins for the sake of Your beloved Son Jesus Christ. Amen.

Confessor (if a Bishop or Priest): Our Lord Jesus Christ, who has left power on earth to His Church to absolve all those that with heartfelt repentance and true faith turn unto Him, of His tender compassion forgive you your offences; and by His authority committed unto me, I absolve (+ over the penitent) you from all your sins; in the Name of the Father, and of the Son (+), and of the Holy Spirit.
